Prologue

The Incident

By the third one she was gone...

That was the last time I seen her altogether. I couldn't fathom the idea of me not being able to see her smile in the mornings. This now meant I couldn't fight with her anymore over who gets the bathroom first, the last slice of cake, or who gets to sit in the front seat of the car. This meant I should be happy right? I felt a pain in my chest, that wasn't there before. Was this me mourning over my sister? Was this the sorrow I've seen people have around me all the time?

By the time I realized that she wasn't coming back, I could see my mom on the floor in front of me. Leaning against the white wall to my left of this long hallway. She was hugging her legs and looked as if she was in shock. Her pale face did not match her beautiful blonde hair that laid perfectly down her back. My dad rising from my sister's dead body turned to my mom with a face full of anger, worry, disgust, and pure hatred. Running towards my mom with full speed, he was not ready for the second bullet that was emitted from the gun. Mom pulled the trigger again...

I didn't notice him fall to his knees, or the blood splatter on my chest. All I could see was the empty look in my sister Emily's eyes. Why didn't they close her eyes? Why is she looking at me? Why did she expect me to save her? Why do I feel like I want to die next?

I glanced at my mom. My facial expression unchanged from the half depressed half lonely. She looked at me one last time before she raised the gun to her own mouth. With a pull of the trigger, the wall that was once white was now covered with my mom's blood. And all I knew was from that moment on I was alone...
